해마다 추수감사절은 한해를 마무리하는 절기입니다. 한해를 돌아보며 감사로 마무리하고 새해를 주님의 은혜로 보내기 위해 마무리를 잘해야 하기 때문에 무엇보다 중요한 절기입니다.
그래서 올해 추수감사절은 조금 특별하게 보면 어떨까 하는 생각이 듭니다. 어떻게 하면 한해를 잘 마무리 할까 고민하고 있다가 한국 판교 꿈꾸는 교회 박창환 목사님의 글을 보며 우리도 이렇게 하면 좋겠다는 생각이 들어 여러분들과 함께 해 보려고 합니다. 바로 개인적으로 감사하는 것이지요. 우리교회 모든 성도들이 감사하는 것입니다. 한해를 보내며 감사한 일들이 많이 있을 거라고 생각됩니다. 또한 감사의 마음이 있었을 것입니다. 그것을 모든 성도들이 준비하여 추수감사주일에 하나님께 올려 드리는 것입니다. 그래서 아래와 같이 준비해 주시기 바랍니다.
첫 번째는 금년 한해에 감사했던 것을 생각해 보는 겁니다.
혹시라도 잘 생각이 나지 않으면 기도하시기 바랍니다. 성령님께 물어보세요. 기도하면, 감사한 것이 생각이 납니다. 성령님은 생각나게 하시는 분이십니다. 그 감사한 것을 적으면 됩니다.
두 번째는 감사한 마음을 헌금으로 표현하는 것입니다. 헌금은 곧 마음입니다. 헌금을 드린다고 생각하지 말고 마음을 드린다고 생각할 것입니다. 마음을 표현해보는 것입니다.
세 번째는 가족 한 사람 개인적으로 감사하는 것입니다. 가족 구성원 모두 개인적인 감사제목들을 전부 준비하여 하나님께 드리는 것입니다.
여기에 믿음을 더하는 것입니다. 감사한 마음에 믿음을 더하는 것입니다. 믿음을 더하자고 하는 것은 지금 우리는 어려운 중에 살아가고 있기 때문입니다. 어려운 중에는 주님의 은혜가 더 필요합니다. 주님께 더 복을 받아야 합니다. 그래서 믿음으로 감사해보자는 것입니다. 정말 감사한 마음을 담아 감사하고, 거기다가 믿음을 더하여 감사하면 어떤 일이 일어날까? 이번엔 생각없이 헌금 드리는 감사절이 되지 않았으면 좋겠습니다. 하나님은 돈을 원하시는 분이 아니시기 때문입니다. 생각하고 기도하다 보니 감사할 일이 너무 많습니다. 더 드릴 수 없는 것이 늘 아쉽습니다. 그런 마음으로 추수감사절을 보낸다면 여러분들의 가정과 목장, 그리고 교회에 놀라운 은혜가 있을 것이라 믿습니다.
이렇게 준비하고 난뒤 11월 30일에 추수감사 주일로 지키며 말씀대신 여러분들의 감사제목을 올려 드리는 것으로 대신하려고 합니다. 서로 감사를 나눌 때 놀라운 일들이 반드시 일어나리라 믿습니다. 그래서 조금은 특별한 추수감사절 이라고 말씀드리는 것이니 모든 성도들이 다 준비하여 11월 30일에 하나님께 감사로 찬양하는 시간이 되길 기대합니다.
그래서 여러분들에게 이번주에 양식지 한장을 드릴 겁니다. 모든 분들이 꼭 가지고 가셔서 2주동안 기도하시면서 감사 제목을 적으시고 11월 30일 주일에 함께 나누며 감사로 하나님께 예배드리는 시간을 마련하겠습니다. 모든 성도님들이 협조해 주셔야 할 수 있으니 꼭 부탁드립니다. - 고요찬 목사
No. 46 — Let’s Have a Special Thanksgiving Sunday
Every year, Thanksgiving Sunday marks the closing of our year. It is one of the most important seasons of our church life because it helps us end the year with gratitude and prepare to enter the new year with the grace of the Lord.
This year, I would like us to celebrate Thanksgiving in a special way. As I was reflecting on how we might finish this year well, I came across a message written by Rev. Park Chang-Hwan from Dreaming Church in Pangyo, Korea. His thoughts deeply resonated with me, and I felt it would be meaningful for our church to do something similar together.
The idea is simple: let each one of us personally offer thanks to God.
Every member of our congregation will take time to reflect and express their gratitude before the Lord. As we come to the close of this year, I’m sure there are many things we can be thankful for, and many moments when we’ve felt the grace of God. This year, we will prepare those expressions of thanksgiving and offer them to God together on Thanksgiving Sunday. Here’s how we will prepare:
1. Reflect on what you are thankful for this year.
Take a moment to look back and remember God’s goodness throughout the year. If you struggle to recall specific things, take time to pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you—because that is what He does. When you pray, He will bring to your mind the blessings and the moments of grace you may have overlooked. Write them down as your personal thanksgiving list.
2. Express your gratitude through your thanksgiving offering.
Offering is not merely about money—it is about the heart. When you give, don’t think of it as giving money, but as offering your heart to God. Your thanksgiving offering is a tangible expression of your gratitude and love toward Him.
3. Have each family member prepare a personal thanksgiving.
We invite every member of each household—parents, children, and youth alike—to prepare their own thanksgiving list and offering. Let each person come before God personally with gratitude in their hearts. And to all of this, let us add faith.
We are living through challenging times, and in such times, we need the grace of the Lord even more. Thanksgiving is not just for when life is easy—it is an act of faith, trusting that God is still good even in difficulty. When we combine genuine gratitude with faith, we will see God work in ways beyond our imagination.
Let this Thanksgiving not be another routine offering, given without thought. Our God is not after our money—He desires our hearts. As I have been praying and reflecting, I’ve realized there is so much to be thankful for, and often I wish I could give even more to express that gratitude. When we come before God with that kind of heart, I believe His amazing grace will pour out upon our homes, our house churches, and our entire church.
After preparing in this way, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday on November 30. Instead of a sermon, we will take time to offer our thanksgiving lists to God and share our gratitude with one another. I believe that as we share our thanksgiving testimonies, God will surely do something wonderful among us. That is why I call this a special Thanksgiving Sunday.
During this week, we will distribute a Thanksgiving reflection sheet to everyone. Please take it home, pray over it for the next two weeks, and write down your thanksgiving topics. Then, bring it with you on Sunday, November 30, as we gather together to worship and give thanks to the Lord.
This will only be meaningful if everyone participates, so I earnestly ask for your full cooperation. Let us prepare our hearts together and make this Thanksgiving a time of joyful praise and sincere gratitude before God.
