가정교회 사역을 섬기다 보면 우리 안에 여러 마음이 교차하는 것을 경험하게 됩니다. 기대와 소망이 있는 만큼 조급함이 찾아오기도 하고, 때로는 방향을 어떻게 잡아야 할지 고민하게 되기도 합니다. 가정교회를 시작하면 무엇인가 눈에 보이는 변화가 빠르게 나타나야 할 것 같은 기대를 갖게 되지만, 시간이 지날수록 분명해지는 사실이 있습니다.
가정교회 사역은 속도의 문제가 아니라 태도와 인내의 문제라는 점입니다. 가정교회 사역을 하는데 있어서 특히 주의해야 할 태도는 조급한 마음입니다. 조급함은 사역을 비교하게 만들고, 사람을 결과로 바라보게 합니다. 언제 열매가 나타날지, 언제 목장과 교회가 안정될지, 언제 ‘잘 되고 있다’고 말할 수 있을지를 스스로 정해 놓고 그 기준에 맞추려 할 때, 사역은 점점 부담이 되기 쉽습니다. 그러나 가정교회는 계획과 전략보다 먼저 하나님께서 한 영혼을 다루시는 시간을 존중하는 사역입니다. 우리가 속도를 정하려 하기보다, 하나님께서 일하시는 과정을 신뢰하는 태도가 필요합니다.
동시에 또 하나 경계해야 할 것은 지나친 느긋함입니다. “가정교회는 시간이 걸리는 사역이니까”라는 말이, 어느 순간 해야 할 돌봄과 결단을 미루는 이유가 될 수 있습니다. 가정교회는 저절로 자라는 공동체가 아니라, 기도와 관심, 책임 있는 섬김 위에 세워지는 공동체입니다. 조급함이 사역을 어렵게 만든다면, 지나친 느긋함 역시 공동체를 정체하게 만들 수 있습니다.
가정교회 사역에는 이 두 가지 사이에서의 균형 잡힌 태도가 필요합니다.
서두르지는 않되 멈추지 않는 것, 속도를 내지는 않되 방향을 잃지 않는 것, 결과를 재촉하지 않되 맡겨진 사명에는 성실히 반응하는 것입니다.
또한 우리는 가정교회에 대해 한 가지 오해를 경계할 필요가 있습니다. 가정교회를 하면 모든 것이 자연스럽게 잘 될 것이라는 기대입니다. 가정교회는 문제를 자동으로 해결해 주는 구조가 아니라, 오히려 한 사람 한 사람을 더 깊이 마주하게 만드는 공동체입니다. 그렇기에 더 많은 인내와 기도가 요구됩니다. 가정교회의 목적은 속도를 내는 데 있지 않고, 한 영혼을 끝까지 책임지고 사랑하는 데 있습니다.
예수님께서도 제자들을 급하게 세우지 않으셨습니다. 연약함과 실패가 반복되는 시간 속에서도 끝까지 함께 걸어가셨습니다. 그 길은 결코 빠르지 않았지만, 포기하지 않는 길이었습니다. 가정교회 사역 역시 그러합니다. 눈에 보이는 성과보다 중요한 것은, 한 영혼이 말씀 안에서 자라고 공동체 안에서 기도로 회복되는 시간입니다.
우리 교회가 가정교회를 통해 속도를 내려 하기보다, 천천히 그러나 멈추지 않고, 끝까지 인내하며 걸어가는 공동체가 되기를 소망합니다. 하나님께서 맡기신 한 영혼을 귀하게 여기며, 비교하지 않고 포기하지 않으며, 주님께서 이루실 열매를 신뢰하며 나아가는 교회가 되기를 바랍니다. 가정교회 사역은 빠름이 아니라, 신실함으로 완성되는 사역이기 때문입니다. - 고요찬 목사
No. 55 House Church Ministry Is Not About Speed, but About Perseverance
As we serve in house church ministry, we often experience many conflicting emotions within us. Along with expectation and hope, impatience can arise, and at times we find ourselves wrestling with questions about direction. When we begin house church ministry, we may expect visible changes to appear quickly. Yet as time goes on, one truth becomes increasingly clear:
House church ministry is not a matter of speed, but of attitude and perseverance.
One attitude we must be especially careful of in house church ministry is impatience. Impatience leads us to compare ministries and to view people through the lens of results. When we set our own timelines—asking when fruit will appear, when the house church will become stable, or when we can finally say that things are “going well”—the ministry easily becomes a burden. House church ministry, however, is a ministry that honours the time
God takes to work in each soul, even before plans and strategies. Rather than trying to determine the pace
ourselves, we need an attitude that trusts the process through which God is at work.
At the same time, there is another danger we must guard against: excessive complacency. The phrase, “House church ministry takes time,” can at times become an excuse to delay necessary care and decisive action. House churches do not grow automatically; they are built upon prayer, intentional care, and responsible shepherding. Just as impatience can make ministry difficult, excessive complacency can cause the community to stagnate.
House church ministry requires a balanced attitude between these two extremes.
Do not rush, yet do not stop.
Do not accelerate unnecessarily, yet do not lose direction.
Do not demand results, yet respond faithfully to the ministry entrusted to you.
We also need to guard against a common misunderstanding about house church ministry—the expectation that everything will naturally work out well once we adopt it. House church ministry is not a structure that automatically solves problems. Rather, it is a community that brings us face-to-face with each individual(VIPs) more deeply. For this reason, it requires even greater patience and prayer. The purpose of house church ministry is not speed, but taking responsibility to love and care for one soul to the very end.
Jesus Himself did not raise His disciples hastily. Even through repeated weakness and failure, He continued to walk with them to the end. It was not a fast journey, but it was a journey marked by perseverance. House church ministry is the same. More important than visible results is the time in which one soul grows in the Word and is restored through prayer within the community.
We hope that our church, through house church ministry, will choose not to pursue speed, but to walk slowly—yet without stopping—enduring faithfully to the end. May we become a church that treasures each soul entrusted by God, that does not compare, does not give up, and moves forward trusting the fruit that the Lord Himself will bring to completion. For house church ministry is not completed by speed, but by faithfulness.
