가정교회 안에서 목자와 목녀로 세워진다는 것은 단순히 한 역할을 맡는 일이 아닙니다. 그것은 하나님께서 한 영혼을 맡기시며 “함께 살려 보자”고 초대하시는 은혜의 자리입니다. 그래서 목자 목녀의 길은 부담이기 전에 특권이며, 수고이기 전에 감사입니다. 하나님께서 한 사람의 영혼을 믿고 맡기신다는 사실 자체가 이미 큰 영광입니다.
많은 이들이 “내가 할 수 있을까”를 먼저 생각합니다. 자신의 부족함이 먼저 보이기 때문입니다. 그러나 하나님은 완벽한 사람을 찾지 않으십니다. 순종하려는 사람을 찾으십니다. 만일 교회가 목자 목녀로 섬겨 달라고 요청한다면, 가능하다면 기도로 준비하며 믿음으로 나아가시기를 권면합니다. 능력이 충분해서가 아니라, 부르신 분이 하나님이시기 때문입니다. 하나님이 맡기신 사명에는 반드시 하나님이 책임지시는 은혜가 따릅니다. 순종은 준비된 사람의 몫이 아니라, 결단한 사람의 몫입니다.
목자 목녀는 섬기면서 자라 갑니다. 헌신의 자리에서 우리는 자신의 한계를 절실히 느끼지만, 동시에 하나님의 도우심을 더 깊이 경험합니다. 다른 사람을 위해 기도하다 보면 내 기도가 깊어지고, 말씀을 나누기 위해 준비하다 보면 그 말씀이 먼저 나를 새롭게 합니다. 섬김은 우리를 소모시키는 일이 아니라, 오히려 하나님께 더 가까이 이끄는 통로입니다. 주님을 의지하지 않으면 감당할 수 없기에, 우리의 영혼은 더욱 깨어 있고, 믿음은 더 단단해집니다.
목자 목녀가 누리는 또 하나의 은혜는 변화의 현장을 곁에서 보는 기쁨입니다. 한 사람이 예수님을 만나고, 상처가 회복되고, 삶이 새로워지는 과정을 지켜보는 감격은 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없습니다. 그때 우리는 분명히 알게 됩니다. 하나님께서 지금도 살아 역사하고 계시며, 그 일에 나를 사용하고 계신다는 사실을. 이것이 세상이 줄 수 없는 깊은 보람입니다.
물론 쉽지 않은 순간도 있습니다. 때로는 오해도 있고, 지치는 날도 있습니다. 그러나 하나님은 결코 헌신을 외면하지 않으십니다. 사람을 세운 수고, 눈물로 드린 기도, 이름 없이 감당한 섬김을 하나님은 반드시 기억하십니다. 때로는 이 땅에서 기쁨과 열매로, 때로는 우리의 영혼을 더 깊게 빚으시는 은혜로, 그리고 궁극적으로는 하나님 앞에서의 상급으로 갚아 주십니다. 하나님께 드린 순종은 결코 헛되지 않습니다.
그러므로 목자 목녀를 꿈꾸십시오. 요청을 받을 때 두려움보다 믿음으로 한 걸음 내딛으십시오. “누군가는 해야 할 일이라면, 왜 내가 아니겠습니까?”라고 스스로에게 물어 보십시오. 하나님은 오늘도 한 사람의 순종을 통해 공동체를 세워 가십니다. 혹시 그 한 사람이 바로 당신일지 모릅니다.
목자 목녀가 되기 위해 거룩한 꿈을 꾸는 분들이 우리 교회 안에 더 많아지기를 간절히 소망합니다. 이미 섬기고 계신 목자 목녀님들께서는 초심을 붙들고, 하나님이 약속하신 열매를 바라보며 끝까지 충성해 주시기를 부탁드립니다. 한 사람의 순종이 교회를 살리고, 한 가정의 헌신이 하나님 나라를 세워 갑니다. 지금이 바로 응답할 때입니다.
No. 62. Dream a Holy Dream of Becoming a Shepherd and Shepherdess
Being established as a shepherd or shepherdess in a house church is not simply taking on a role. It is a gracious invitation from God, entrusting you with a soul and saying, “Let’s give this person a new life together.” Therefore, the path of a shepherd or shepherdess is a privilege before it is a burden, and gratitude before it is labour. The very fact that God entrusts you with someone’s soul is already a great honour.
Many people first think, “Can I really do this?” because they see their own shortcomings. But God does not look for perfect people. He looks for those who are willing to obey. If the church asks you to serve as a shepherd or shepherdess, I encourage you—if possible—to prepare in prayer and step forward in faith. It is not because you are fully capable, but because the One who calls you is God. Whenever God entrusts a calling, His grace to sustain it always follows. Obedience belongs not to the fully prepared, but to those who choose to commit.
Shepherds and shepherdesses grow as they serve. In the place of dedication, we keenly feel our limitations, yet at the same time we experience God’s help more deeply. As we pray for others, our own prayers deepen. As we prepare to share the Word, that Word renews us first. Serving does not deplete us; rather, it becomes a pathway that draws us closer to God. Because we cannot carry the responsibility without relying on the Lord, our souls become more alert and our faith grows stronger.
Another grace shepherds and shepherdesses enjoy is the joy of witnessing transformation up close. Watching someone meet Jesus, seeing wounds healed, and lives renewed—this is a joy beyond comparison. In those moments, we clearly realize that God is still alive and at work, and that He is using us in His work. This is a deep fulfillment the world cannot give.
Of course, there are difficult moments. There may be misunderstandings and weary days. But God never overlooks devotion. The labour of building up people, the prayers offered in tears, the unseen acts of service—God remembers them all. Sometimes He repays with joy and visible fruit in this life; sometimes with grace that shapes our souls more deeply; and ultimately with reward before Him. Obedience offered to God is never in vain.
Therefore, dream of becoming a shepherd or shepherdess. When you are asked, take a step forward in faith rather than fear. Ask yourself, “If someone must do this, why not me?” Even today, God builds His community through the obedience of one person. Perhaps that person is you.
I earnestly hope that more people in our church will dream this holy dream of becoming shepherds and shepherdesses. To those who are already serving, I ask that you hold on to your first love and remain faithful to the end, looking toward the fruit God has promised. The obedience of one person brings life to a church, and the devotion of one family builds the kingdom of God. Now is the time to respond.
