주님의 은혜 가운데 평안하신지요. 저는 지금 한 달간의 일정으로 한국을 방문한 가운데, 하나님의 인도하심 속에서 캄보디아에 머물고 있습니다. 낯선 환경과 익숙하지 않은 자리이지만, 그곳에서 하나님께서 어떻게 일하시는지를 깊이 경험하고 있어 이 소식을 꼭 나누고 싶은 마음입니다.
캄보디아에 도착한 첫날, ‘목자의 정체성’이라는 주제로 강의를 하게 되었습니다. 사실 그 자리는 특별한 기대보다는, 맡겨진 사명을 잘 감당하자는 마음으로 준비한 시간이었습니다. 그러나 강의가 시작되고 말씀을 나누는 가운데, 하나님께서 그 자리를 완전히 다르게 이끌어 가셨습니다.
참석한 분들의 마음이 열리기 시작했고, 단순한 배움의 자리를 넘어 하나님을 실제로 만나는 시간이 되었습니다. 어떤 분들은 자신의 삶을 돌아보며 눈물로 회개했고, 어떤 분들은 다시 사명을 붙드는 결단을 하였습니다. 그 모든 순간 속에서 분명하게 느낄 수 있었던 것은, 하나님께서 지금도 살아 역사하고 계신다는 사실이었습니다.
저 역시 그 자리에 서 있으면서, ‘아, 하나님께서 이곳에 이미 와 계셨구나’라는 고백을 하게 되었습니다. 제가 무언가를 전하기 위해 온 것이 아니라, 하나님께서 이미 준비해 놓으신 자리 가운데 부름을 받아 서 있었던 것뿐이라는 것을 깨닫게 되었습니다.
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 우리는 종종 하나님이 멀리 계신 것처럼 느껴질 때가 있습니다. 그러나 이번 시간을 통해 다시 확신하게 됩니다. 하나님은 특정한 장소에만 계신 분이 아니라, 우리가 순종하며 나아가는 그 자리에서 이미 일하고 계신 분이십니다.
캄보디아에서 시작된 이 작은 움직임을 보며, 저는 자연스럽게 시드니의 우리 공동체를 떠올리게 되었습니다. 하나님께서 우리 교회 가운데서도 동일하게, 아니 어쩌면 더 풍성하게 일하기를 원하고 계시지 않을까요? 우리가 그 부르심에 다시 반응한다면, 하나님은 우리의 삶과 공동체 가운데서도 분명히 살아계심을 나타내실 것입니다.
이곳에서의 남은 시간 또한 기대가 됩니다. 이미 시작하신 하나님께서 어떤 열매를 맺게 하실지, 어떤 사람들의 삶을 변화시키실지 기대하며 기도하게 됩니다.
멀리 떨어져 있지만, 우리의 믿음은 하나로 연결되어 있습니다. 각자의 자리에서 하나님을 향한 갈망을 놓지 않고, 맡겨진 자리에서 충실히 살아가는 우리 모두가 되기를 소망합니다. 그리고 다시 만날 때, 하나님께서 각자의 삶 가운데 행하신 일들을 함께 나누게 되기를 기대합니다.

God's work in a foreign land..
Dear beloved congregation in Christ,
I pray that you are all abiding in the peace and grace of our Lord. During my one-month visit to Korea, I have been led by God’s providence to stay in Cambodia. Though it is an unfamiliar land and setting, I am deeply experiencing how the Lord is at work here, and I felt compelled to share this testimony with you.
On the first day of my arrival in Cambodia, I had the opportunity to deliver a message under the theme of “The Identity of Mokja.” Honestly, I approached that time simply with the heart of faithfully carrying out the ministry entrusted to me, without any particular expectations. However, as the session began and the Word was proclaimed, the Lord led the gathering in a way far beyond what I had anticipated.
The hearts of those present began to open, and it became more than just a time of teaching—it turned into a powerful encounter with God. Some reflected on their lives and repented with tears, while others renewed their commitment to their calling. In every moment, it was evident that our God is alive and actively working among His people.
As I stood there, I found myself confessing, “Surely, the Lord was already here.” I realized that I had not come to bring something of my own, but rather, I had been called to stand in a place that God had already prepared.
Beloved brothers and sisters, there are times when we may feel that God is distant. Yet through this experience, I am once again assured that He is not confined to a specific place. Our God is already at work wherever we step out in obedience.
As I witness this small movement beginning here in Cambodia, I am reminded of our community in Sydney. Does not the Lord desire to work among us in the same way—or even more abundantly? If we respond anew to His calling, He will surely reveal His living presence in our lives and in our church community.
I also look forward to the remaining time here. I am praying with great expectation for the fruit that the Lord, who has already begun His work, will bring forth, and for the lives that will be transformed.
Though we are physically apart, we are united in faith. I pray that each of us will continue to hold onto our longing for God and live faithfully in the place entrusted to us. And when we meet again, I look forward to sharing the works that God has accomplished in each of our lives.
