내 교회를 세우리니(2025.11.09 가정교회부흥회 1일차)

 

 

오늘 우리는 교회의 본질이 무엇인지 다시 붙잡기 원합니다. 예수님께서 베드로에게 말씀하셨습니다. “너는 베드로라. 내가 이 반석 위에 내 교회를 세우리니 음부의 권세가 이기지 못하리라.” 교회는 사람이 만든 조직이 아닙니다. 예수 그리스도께서 친히 세우신 하나님의 공동체, 그리고 영혼을 구원하고 제자를 세우기 위해 존재하는 하나님의 도구입니다. 예수님은 부활하신 후 제자들에게 마지막 명령을 주셨습니다.

“그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼으라.” (마 28:19)

 

 이 명령은 단순한 부탁이 아닙니다. 주님의 유언이자 교회의 사명 선언문입니다. 교회의 존재 목적은 오직 하나, 영혼 구원과 제자 양육입니다. 예수님은 베드로의 고백 위에 교회를 세우셨습니다. “주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이시니이다.” 이 고백이 바로 교회의 시작점입니다. 교회는 건물이 아니라, 이 고백 위에 서 있는 사람들, 즉 예수를 주로 고백하는 공동체입니다.

 

 그런데 많은 교회가 어느새 그 목적을 잃고 사람을 모으는 것, 프로그램을 늘리는 것에만 집중할 때가 있습니다. 하지만 교회는 ‘모이는 곳’이 아니라, 세상으로 흩어져 복음을 전하는 파송의 공동체입니다. 가정교회의 정신은 바로 여기에 있습니다. ‘영혼 구원하여 제자 삼는다.’ 그 목적 하나를 위해 예배하고, 사랑하고, 나누고, 섬기며, 목장이라는 작은 교회 속에서 서로의 인생을 나누는 것입니다.

 

한 목사님이 이런 이야기를 하셨습니다. “교회는 영혼 구원을 멈추는 순간, 존재 이유를 잃는다.” 마치 바다가 죽으면 물고기가 살 수 없듯, 복음을 잃은 교회에는 생명이 머물지 않습니다. 가정교회는 화려한 프로그램보다 사람의 영혼에 집중합니다. 한 영혼이 주님께 돌아올 때, 온 하늘이 기뻐하고, 교회는 살아납니다. 그 기쁨이 예배의 불씨가 되고, 제자 양육의 열매가 됩니다. 예수님께서 “음부의 권세가 이기지 못하리라” 하셨습니다. 사탄의 세력이 강해 보일지라도, 주님의 교회는 결코 무너지지 않습니다. 왜냐하면 교회는 인간의 힘이 아니라 주님의 손으로 세워진 공동체이기 때문입니다.

 

 오늘 우리 교회가 다시 그 첫사랑, 첫 사명을 회복하기 원합니다.누가 뭐라 해도 우리는 영혼 구원하는 교회, 제자 세우는 교회, 하나님 나라를 확장하는 교회로 서야 합니다. 마지막으로 한 가지 이야기로 마무리하겠습니다. 

 

한 선교사가 오지 마을에서 20년 동안 한 영혼을 위해 복음을 전했습니다. 그 마을 사람들은 처음에는 돌을 던지고, 비웃었지만,
그는 포기하지 않았습니다. 20년 만에 한 영혼이 예수를 믿고 세례를 받았을 때, 그 선교사는 눈물로 이렇게 고백했습니다.
“이 한 영혼을 위해 하나님은 나를 이곳에 보내셨다.” 
그 고백이 바로 교회의 존재 이유입니다. 

 

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 우리 교회가 바로 그 사명 위에 서 있기를 원합니다. 사람의 눈에 크고 작음이 아니라, 주님이 기뻐하시는 교회, 주님이 세우신 교회가 되기를 바랍니다.  우리가 한 마음으로 복음의 사명을 붙잡을 때, 하나님은 반드시 새 생명을 우리 가운데 부어주실 것입니다. 주님께서 세우신 교회, 주님께서 일하시는 교회, 그리고 주님이 다시 오실 때까지 영혼을 살리고 제자를 세우는 교회 되기를 축복합니다.

 

I Will Raise Up My Church (Matthew 16:16–18, 28:18–20)

 

“Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’
Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.’” (Matthew 16:16–18, NIV)

 

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
(Matthew 28:18–20, NIV)

 

Today, we want to reaffirm what the essence of the Church truly is. 
Jesus said to Peter, 

 

“You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

 

The Church is not a man-made organization.

It is the community of God that Christ Himself established— a divine instrument through which God saves souls and raises disciples.  

After His resurrection, Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19)

 

This was not a mere request. It was the Lord’s final command—His last will and testament—and it remains the mission statement of the Church. The Church exists for one purpose only: to save souls and make disciples. Jesus built His Church upon Peter’s confession:

 

“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

 

That confession is the very foundation of the Church. The Church is not a building, but the gathering of people who stand upon that confession— the community of believers who proclaim Jesus as Lord. However, many churches today have lost sight of that purpose. They become preoccupied with drawing crowds and expanding programs.
But the Church is not merely a place to gather— it is a sending community, scattered into the world to proclaim the gospel. 

 

This is the very heart of the House Church movement: “To save the lost and make them disciples.”

For that purpose alone, we worship, love, share, and serve. In the small setting of each house church, we share our lives and journey together as disciples. 

One pastor once said, “The moment a church stops saving souls, it loses its reason to exist.”

Just as fish cannot live in a dead sea, a church that loses the gospel loses its life. House Churches focus not on flashy programs but on people—on souls. When even one soul turns to the Lord, all heaven rejoices, and the church is revived.
That joy becomes the spark of worship and the fruit of disciple-making.

 

Jesus promised, “The gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

 

Though the forces of darkness may appear strong, the Church of the Lord will never be defeated for it is not built by human hands, but by the hand of Christ Himself.

 

Today, may our church return to its first love and first calling. No matter what others say, may we remain a church that saves souls, raises disciples, and expands the kingdom of God. Let me close with one story. A missionary once served in a remote village for twenty years, sharing the gospel with just one soul.  At first, the villagers mocked him and even threw stones but he never gave up. After twenty years, one person finally believed in Jesus and was baptized.
With tears in his eyes, the missionary said, “God sent me here for this one soul.”

 

That confession captures the very reason the Church exists.  Beloved brothers and sisters, may our church stand firmly upon that same mission. It is not about being big or small in the eyes of people but about being a church that pleases the Lord, a church that Christ Himself builds.

 

When we unite our hearts around the gospel mission, God will surely pour out new life among us.

May we be:
    •    The Church built by the Lord,
    •    The Church through which the Lord works,
    •    And the Church that, until Jesus returns, saves souls and makes disciples for His glory.
