헛된 삶과 풍성한 삶(2026.04.12)

 

 

1. 들어가며

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 어느덧 2026년도 4월이 지나가고 있습니다. 시간이 참으로 빠르게 흐르고 있음을 실감하게 됩니다. 우리는 종종 “나는 무엇을 이루며 살고 있는가?”라는 질문 앞에서 초조함과 두려움을 느끼게 됩니다.

오늘날 많은 사람들의 삶의 방향은 크게 두 가지로 나뉘는 것 같습니다.
 

 첫째는 생존을 위한 삶입니다. 치열한 경쟁과 불안정한 현실 속에서 가족을 책임지고 미래를 준비하기 위해 끊임없이 애쓰고 있습니다.
 

 둘째는 즐거움을 추구하는 삶입니다. 먹고, 입고, 마시고, 누리는 것에 많은 관심을 쏟으며 삶의 만족을 찾으려 합니다.

이 두 가지 모두 결국 돈과 연결되어 있으며, 사람들은 돈을 통해 안정과 행복을 얻을 수 있다고 생각합니다.
그러나 우리는 이 질문 앞에 서야 합니다.
 

 “과연 이것이 인생의 참된 목적이며, 옳은 삶의 방향인가?”

 

2. 본문 설명 (전도서 1장)

 오늘 본문의 저자인 솔로몬은 그 누구보다도 모든 것을 누렸던 인물입니다. 그는 지혜와 권세, 부와 명예를 모두 가진 왕이었고, 하고 싶은 것을 제한 없이 누리며 살았던 사람입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 그의 인생의 결론은 매우 충격적입니다. 
 

 “헛되고 헛되며, 헛되고 헛되니 모든 것이 헛되도다.”

 

 이 고백은 단순한 감정이 아니라, 인생을 끝까지 살아본 사람이 내린 결론입니다.

 

3. 인생이 헛된 이유

 

 1) 인생은 본질적으로 피곤합니다

솔로몬은 “모든 만물이 피곤하다”고 고백합니다. 인생은 쉼 없이 반복되는 수고와 책임 속에서 흘러갑니다. 우리는 휴식을 통해 잠시 회복을 경험할 수는 있지만, 삶 자체의 무게와 피곤함은 사라지지 않습니다. 이것은 인생의 본질적인 한계입니다.

 

 2) 인생에는 참된 만족이 없습니다

“눈은 보아도 족함이 없고 귀는 들어도 가득 차지 아니한다”는 말씀처럼, 인간의 욕망은 결코 채워지지 않습니다. 솔로몬은 동산과 궁전, 재물과 명예를 모두 누렸지만 만족하지 못했습니다. 오히려 큰 성취 뒤에는 더 큰 허무함이 찾아왔습니다. 우리가 목표를 이루기 위해 애쓸 때는 그것이 인생의 전부인 것처럼 느껴지지만, 막상 이루고 나면 그것이 우리를 만족시키지 못한다는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다.

 

 3) 쾌락도 결국 허무함으로 끝납니다 

솔로몬은 먹고 마시는 즐거움과 육체적인 쾌락까지도 마음껏 경험했습니다. 그러나 그 모든 것 역시 오래가지 못했고, 결국 공허함만 남았습니다. 세상의 즐거움은 순간적인 만족을 줄 수는 있지만, 우리의 영혼을 채우지는 못합니다. 오히려 더 큰 공허와 갈증을 남기게 됩니다.

 

4. 인생의 유한성

 

1) 죽음은 반드시 찾아옵니다

 솔로몬은 인생의 끝에서 인생이 너무나 짧다는 사실을 깨닫습니다. 젊음은 영원할 것 같지만, 시간은 빠르게 지나가고 결국 모든 사람은 죽음을 맞이하게 됩니다. 우리는 종종 이 사실을 잊고 살아가지만, 죽음을 기억할 때 비로소 삶의 방향을 바르게 세울 수 있습니다.

 

 2) 죽음 이후에는 심판이 있습니다

성경은 하나님께서 우리의 모든 행위뿐 아니라 마음의 생각까지도 심판하신다고 말씀합니다. 이 사실은 우리로 하여금 삶을 더욱 진지하게 살아가도록 합니다. 세상의 많은 사람들은 이 진리를 외면한 채 살아가지만, 솔로몬은 인생의 끝에서 이 사실을 분명히 깨닫고 우리에게 경고하고 있습니다.

 

 5. 적용

 1) 하나님으로 만족하는 삶

인생의 허무함은 세상의 것으로 채워지지 않습니다. 오직 하나님을 기억하고, 하나님 안에서 살아갈 때 참된 만족과 기쁨을 누릴 수 있습니다. 하나님으로 만족하는 사람은 환경에 관계없이 감사와 기쁨을 누리게 됩니다.

 

2) 죽음을 기억하는 삶

죽음을 기억하는 것은 두려움을 위한 것이 아니라, 삶을 바르게 살아가기 위한 지혜입니다. 죽음을 인식할 때 우리는 더욱 의미 있고 가치 있는 삶을 살게 됩니다.

 

3) 천국을 준비하는 삶

이 땅은 영원한 거처가 아니라 잠시 머무는 곳입니다. 우리는 영원한 나라를 준비해야 합니다. 그 준비는 오직 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 시작됩니다. 예수님께서 우리의 죄를 대신하여 십자가에서 죽으시고 부활하셨음을 믿을 때, 우리는 죄 사함을 받고 영원한 생명을 얻게 됩니다.

 

✨ 결론

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 솔로몬은 인생의 모든 것을 경험한 후에 “모든 것이 헛되다”고 고백했습니다. 이 고백은 우리에게 중요한 질문을 던집니다. 

“나는 무엇을 위해 살아가고 있는가?”

 

세상의 것들은 결국 우리를 만족시키지 못합니다. 그러나 하나님을 기억하고, 예수 그리스도를 믿으며 살아갈 때 우리의 삶은 헛되지 않으며, 참된 의미와 영원한 소망을 갖게 됩니다. 주님을 소망하며 살아가는 저와 여러분들이 되길 바랍니다. 

 

A Futile Life and an Abundant Life (Ecclesiastes 1:1–3)

 
1. Introduction
 
Dear beloved congregation, April 2026 is already passing by. We truly feel how quickly time is flowing. We often become anxious and fearful when we face the question, “What am I accomplishing with my life?”
 
Today, it seems that people’s lives generally fall into two main directions:
First is a life for survival. In intense competition and an unstable reality, people constantly strive to support their families and prepare for the future.
Second is a life pursuing pleasure. People seek satisfaction in eating, wearing, drinking, and enjoying various comforts.
 
Both of these ultimately connect to money, and many believe they can gain stability and happiness through wealth.
However, we must stand before this question:
“Is this truly the purpose of life, and is this the right direction?”
 
2. Explanation of the Passage (Ecclesiastes 1)
 
The author of today’s passage, Solomon, was someone who enjoyed everything more than anyone else.
He was a king who possessed wisdom, power, wealth, and honor. He lived without restriction, enjoying whatever he desired.
 
Yet his conclusion about life is very shocking:
“Meaningless! Meaningless! Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
 
This confession is not just an emotional statement, but the conclusion of someone who lived life to the very end.
 
3. Why Life Is Futile
1) Life is inherently tiring
 
Solomon confesses, “All things are wearisome.”
Life flows with endless repetition, labour, and responsibility. We may temporarily recover through rest, but the weight and fatigue of life do not disappear. This is a fundamental limitation of life.
 
2) There is no true satisfaction in life
 
As it says, “The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing,” human desire is never fully satisfied.
 
Solomon enjoyed gardens, palaces, wealth, and honour, yet he was not satisfied. Instead, greater achievements brought greater emptiness.
 
When we strive toward our goals, they seem like everything. But once we achieve them, we realize they cannot truly satisfy us.
 
3) Pleasure also ends in emptiness
 
Solomon even experienced the pleasures of eating, drinking, and physical enjoyment to the fullest.
But none of these lasted, and in the end only emptiness remained.
 
The pleasures of the world may give temporary satisfaction, but they do not fill our souls. Instead, they leave deeper emptiness and thirst.
 
4. The Finiteness of Life
 
1) Death will surely come
At the end of life, Solomon realizes how short life really is. Youth feels eternal, but time quickly passes, and everyone eventually faces death.
 
We often forget this truth, but remembering death helps us set the right direction for life.
 
2) There is judgment after death
 
The Bible says that God judges not only our actions but even the thoughts of our hearts.
This truth leads us to live more seriously and intentionally.
 
Many people ignore this reality, but Solomon clearly recognizes it at the end of his life and warns us.
 
5. Application
 
1) A life satisfied in God
 
The emptiness of life cannot be filled with worldly things.
Only when we remember God and live in Him can we experience true satisfaction and joy.
 
Those who are satisfied in God can live with gratitude and joy regardless of circumstances.
 
2) A life that remembers death
 
Remembering death is not meant to create fear, but wisdom for living rightly.
When we recognize death, we live more meaningful and valuable lives.
 
3) A life preparing for heaven
 
This world is not our eternal home, but a temporary place.
We must prepare for the eternal kingdom.
 
That preparation begins with faith in Jesus Christ.
When we believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again,
we receive forgiveness and gain eternal life.
 
✨ Conclusion
 
Dear beloved congregation,
After experiencing everything in life, Solomon confessed, “Everything is meaningless.”
 
This confession asks us an important question:
“What am I living for?”
 
The things of this world ultimately cannot satisfy us.
But when we remember God and live believing in Jesus Christ,
our lives are not meaningless — they gain true meaning and eternal hope.
 
May we all live with hope in the Lord.
